The full stop (called period in American English) marks the end of a declarative sentence.

Spacing
The full stop is written directly after the last word, with no space before it. A single word space follows.

Full stop in abbreviations
When an abbreviation ending in a period closes a sentence, the abbreviation's period serves as the final stop — no second period is added.
She bought bread,cheese,etc..

Full stop and quotation marks
In US English, the period goes inside the closing quotation mark. In UK English, it goes outside if it is not part of the quoted material.
She said, "Come in." (US style)
